Chapter One
“Stop!” Katherine screamed. The air around her moved wildly as if directed by her emotions. She didn’t quite realize that she was moving until she had already placed herself between their attackers and Emily.
With Katherine blocking the torrent of dark energy they were blasting at her Emily fell to the floor, the weakness in her finally getting the chance to set in. As Emily watched her cousin Katherine take on the people who were attacking them she let her eyes grow heavy, sinking into unconsciousness.
Katherine almost gave up the fight, watching her cousin slowly slipping away from her. Her heart didn’t want to go on, knowing that it was too late. Knowing that Emily was already gone. The air was still blowing a miniature hurricane around her. She cried out, scared and lost. The world seemed to be moving more slowly now. Unnaturally slow. Katherine could feel her heart racing. Heat was rising throughout her body, replacing the agonizing pain she was feeling. Katherine could feel herself gaining new strength, and her fists clenched involuntarily. She stood there as strong as a statue while her enemies were edging ever closer. They were still blasting Katherine with the same energy they had used to attack Emily.
Before Katherine could really understand what was happening another blast of energy exploded from where she stood. Katherine collapsed as the bright explosion barrelled its way towards her enemies. It knocked most of them to the ground, but a number of them remained standing. The blast continued, shaking the ground at their feet and the trees that surrounded them.
Almost as suddenly as the blast started it drifted to nothing. Completely exhausted of all strength Katherine passed out on the forest floor, her legs failing her.
